On Campus Learning  (updated 11/9/20)

The latest COVID-19 data released by the Arizona Department of Health for our area has Globe, Miami, San Carlos, and Peridot all listed at the red level (see graph below). Red indicates a high level of transmission. Therefore, the Gila County Health Department has advised us to not return to in person instruction at this time. They have indicated that it might be several weeks before they would know if we could return to on campus instruction. We will continually monitor the numbers and return to in person learning as soon as the Health Department gives us the okay.

Last Wednesday morning, November 4th, we were notified that three students had tested positive for COVID-19. All three students had begun attending the On-Site Learning and Support Services Program for students who need a place to go during the day on Monday, November 2nd, and were also in attendance on Tuesday, November 3rd. Although the affected students were in their plexiglass learning stations and wore a mask throughout the day, we still followed Gila County Health Department guidelines and sent all staff and students from Mrs. Montoya's, Mr. McBride's, and Mrs. Tanner's classrooms home to be quarantined for 14 days. Letters were then sent to every Destiny family notifying them of what had happened.

Although we have had 4 students quarantined due to their parents having contracted COVID-19 and now 22 students quarantined from these 3 classrooms, there has been no indication of COVID-19 spreading from person to person at the school. We continue to utilize the plexiglass learning stations for each student and are following CDC guidelines concerning physical separation, mask wearing, cleaning, and sanitation.

While we are doing everything we can to keep the students safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19 at the school, there is always a risk and students are safer at home. We will continue to provide the On-Site Learning and Support Services Program for students who need a place to go during the day and honor your decision as to whether it is better for your students to be on campus or at home.

As always, we thank you for your support and understanding.
